updates

#7- yes, i am keeping my address book up to date, so i’m just going to consider this COMPLETE!

#13- i’m working on organizing and printing my digital photos, but its taking some time. i really hope that i get to finish this before the 101 in 1001 goal project is over.

speaking of that, there is LESS than a year before my first 101 in 1001 goal will be finished. way too quick how did i get to the point where there is less than a year left in this project?

#28- here is another goal i’m just going to consider finished: support local artists, businesses, etc. i’ve found that the goals that work well for me in this project are measurable ones. how can i just keep reading over this goal every time i look to write an update. i honestly try to support all things local as often as possible, and i do well with following through. so for this project, this is also being considered complete. its not that i am going to stop doing local stuff at all, i’ll keep on keeping on. but its silly to try to track it.

#29- support one new to me independent business per month:
june- waterside grill on the docks in east greenwich, ri
july- lake pearl in foxborough,ma & the liquor store in mystic,ct
august- D&G deli in westwood, ma
september- sapphire in twin river- lincoln, ri
october- illsington pizza

#62 and 65- i’m soon to begin my final month of nablopomo. i’m going to attempt nanowritmo (i know, i know- shoot me. i’m overwhelming myself) so i’m hoping to actually succeed but i understand i’m setting myself up here. so lets all keep our fingers crossed. i’ll probably be putting all the info on my other blog, (which is brand new, have you checked it out yet?) so catch me over there…

#69- my 14th letter (of the 100 i plan on writing to friends) was to my friend stephan.

just little ol’ me checking in

update time:

#22- i took fenway on a “doggy date”…aka i took her to work, lol. she hurt her hip and i didn’t want to leave her home alone, so i took her to work. it was like “bring your kid to work day!” my little puppy is a very good worker 🙂

#62- did i actually write in here that i failed NABLOPOMO for the month of january? cause i did 😉

#66- I FINISHED ANOTHER GOAL! my grace in small things challenge is complete. for 365 days in a row i listed the stuff i was grateful for on my other blog. i was actually glad to complete this goal; it was kind of draining me. its funny how normal it became for me though, every day i seem to notice more and more of things i should be thankful for.

#69- i’ve actually written 13 letters to friends! i’ve written another to EP, another to sarah, another to lauren one to both my brother and his wife, one to my friend monica, one to nicky and one to my friend chris. (i think that i named everyone!)

its been a while

time for lots of fun updates. sorry i totally slacked on updating this project this winter. i did a decent job of working on some of the items on the list, but not recording what i’ve done. so i have to play some catch up. i’ll probably have one more catch up post.

#28- support local “stuff”:  i went to see a local band “bobs days off” play twice- once in december and once in february. i’ve been to a few local bars and restaurants- barrets ale house, rogers, playoffs pub and the grad student bar at brown. and i went bowling- yay- at a local alley.

#29- can you believe i actually had to go back and look through my planner to figure this one out? i have a super amount to catch you up on this one! my goal was to support a local NEW independent business every month. i haven’t updated since october so here goes:
october: i bought my dress from “wishing well” a local bridal salon for trisha’s wedding
november: we went to a tranny karaoke club in boston then the club revolution for trisha’s bachelorette party
december: we went to the local restaurant “lobster pot” for trish’s rehersal dinner, and i also stood at hotel monacco in alexandria, va for NYE. i totally loved the hotel and recommend it if anyone is going to be in that area.
january: i went to the “stork connection” with my family to watch my future niece for my sister-in-law’s 3D ultrasound

#30- i’m supposed to ask a stranger out on a date. does kissing a random extremely handsome man on stage then later exchanging numbers, kissing some more and going out for a late night snack at like 3am count as “asking a new man out on a date?”  does it make a difference that we went bowling the next week (in truth it was mere circumstance, & i didn’t ask him to go bowl with me)?  i think y’all need to be the judge of this one, because i honestly am not sure whether to allow it or not!

#66- my grace in small things challenge (to write what i’m grateful for every day for one year) will be over soon. i can’t even believe it. i’ve only 12 more days left!

#69- write 100 letters to friends. since the last update, i had sent 4 letters. i’m up to number 6. i’ve sent a letter to my friends stephan and to phampants! i’m also working on my 7th letter right now, but i’ll count that one later when its actually finished and mailed.

#80- start wearing red lipstick. well i wore red lipstick the night i kissed the handsome stranger on stage (#30) so thats got to mean something, right?

slow going

minor changes on the list to update you about:

#28- local businesses i try to support with my business…can you believe i haven’t updated this since november? well, there are a lot of obvious and boring ones… my credit union, my nail lady, my gas station, the two sushi places i usually visit and my dentist. i also have gotten an oil change, went to a local school for a clinic massage and threw my sister a baby shower at the local country club.

#66- i’m almost done my grace in small things challenge, which seems crazy to me. i’m on day 333 of 365! wow. check it out on my other blog.

#69- i finally got around to writing a couple handwritten letters to my friends. i need to write 100 before the end of this challenge… i’ve done four!! one to my friend lauren and the other to my friend sarah. i have two to mail out to my pen pals- kate and erin- today or tomorrow. so i’m just going to count them here. do you want to be my pen pal? find out how.

#70- i own 225 books i’v never read. when i started this project, i read three. off the top of my head i’ve read another three: operating instructions by anne lamott, the MFA handbook by tom kealey and eat, pray, love by elizabeth gilbert. i’m sure i’ve read much more but i guess i’ll just have to update this later.

#75- apply to grad school. well, i’ve fully applied to three schools. I’m probably going to be fully applied to another three tonight, and within the next week, i will be completely done this goal…. AND I CANNOT WAIT!

#88- still paying off credit cards and doing a great job, but the grad school apps have put a definite dent in the payment plan. can you guess how expensive it is to apply to 14 schools?

#90- i’ve been updating my credit card and bank info into the spreadsheet i have.

#91- still working on paying off my car. well, my credit union is at least. they automatically take money out of my account once a month.

#100- i’m supposed to get 5 people to start their own 101 list…. do any of you want to be inspired by me??? i don’t have anyone who started their list because of mine yet!

huge update. are you ready for this?

well, well, well. can you even believe i let so much time go by without updating you guys on the hard work i have been doing on my goals.

the second place we went to eat in miami was this amazing little italian restaurant in south beach. i think it was on 14th street off of washington ave we didn’t read the menu before we sat down, so we were a little surprised by the price- but in reality it wasn’t too expensive. after we got the food we realized it was completely worth it. WOW. the food was PERFECT i was amazed with everything. and everyone who works there are hardcore italian. the men are fricken gorgeous and i was in love with every single one of them
anyway, we also went to jimmy buffet’s margaritaville in mexico and that was an outrageous time! they had a fresh guacamole “hut” that would come around to your table if you wanted any. WOWEE! best guac. i have ever eaten in my entire life. it was perfect.

the next place was a restaurant/bar on the waterfront in bristol, RI where i got the best rhode island oysters i have had in a while. i also don’t remember the name of this one, but i’m sure i can figure it out soon enough. there are just so many restaurants in that area, that i don’t want to google it and tell you the wrong one!
and then yesterday i went to another RI restaurant. J.D.’s, a “hole in the wall”, aka a family restaurant…amy, sa and i got breakfast there the morning after the new kids on the block concert. i really enjoyed it there as well. the french toast was the best.

#twenty eight: i did a pretty good job supporting local artists. in haiti, i got a bunch of local artwork. statues and masks for the most part. i don’t have any pictures now, so i will try to take some. in jamaica i got some nice jamaican coffee. i also went to watch a friend’s band : dancing nancys at a bar in bristol one night.

#twenty nine:
i guess for may i will chose 11th street diner as my independent business for the month of may because it was my favorite place. for the month of june, my independent business was that cute family restaurant J.D.’s.
#thirty four: i’ve got quite a few pictures to add to my urban alphabet. some on the cruise and some in the countries we visited. and i think there are a few since i have been home. i’m going to put these pics in a separate post because this one is already going to be too long!

#thirty five: i also have more pictures to add to my 100 pictures project. i’m just going to include them on a separate post too.

#thirty nine: i am adding to my cork collection that i will use to make my cork frame. two of the new corks i got on my cruise when amy and i dined and had our favorite waiters, ivan and parag. the other is from friday night at the NKOTB concert.

#forty three: take a picture at least once every two weeks. gosh i have teaken quite a few so far. which is surprising, usually i take one of myself, but it was nice to have a few taken by others.
this one below was taken on may 29 in miami. i am so in love with ami james. too bad i didn’t meet him!
below is from may 30th. it was our first day on the boat. this is my sexy look! haha ya right.this one was taken on june 1st after visiting haiti.
this one was taken later that night.

this picture was taken in mexico on june 4th. we were re-re-routed there. originally we were supposed to go to mexico, but we were re-routed to the bahamas. then we didn’t find out about it being changed back to being mexico until we were on the cruise. so i was so excited because i really wanted to swim with the dolphins there…and i got to!

this one was after the dolphin swimming same day.

this picture also taken on june 4th. i love it because the whole time i was being photographed by the people at the dolphin cove, my eyes were closed or i was making crazy faces because i was paying so much attention to the dolphins…so in the moment that i paid no mind to them!

hmm, i like the casino. this was on june 5th the night before the cruise ended.

this picture was taken by The Bestie as i slept on the plane ride home!

#forty seven: the time has come to kick ass on this time capsule project. i expect it to be complete by september 3rd, because that is when i will be going to virginia, and my birthday will be during that weekend! i obviously am just beginning so i don’t know what i will put in it. i’m going to obviously put in letters people write me, but i also need to find items which commemorate the last 25 years of my life! do any of y’all have any ideas? any suggestions as to when i should open it?#forty nine: i completed another item! i am back from my cruise! here are just a few random pictures.

#fifty seven: here is a picture of my pretty new passport! goal complete!

#sixty three: this week will be my 25th weekly entry. i’m totally loving that i am sticking firmly to this writing weekly schedule. its become more of a habit now. and i did a pretty good job writing in my journal during my cruise. at least for the first few days! haha.

#sixty six: yesterday i completed my 101st grace in small things entry. i am so excited about this. i cannot believe i have done so many of these entries. i feel like this is such a big accomplishment. i wonder what one complete year will feel like.

#sixty nine: my plan on vacation was to write letters to some of my friends on my cruise. i failed that one miserably! ha. didn’t write any. but that is okay because i know i have one sobby letter to write to my lovely “wife” who is moving with her fiance Cornmuffin to the DC area. i have the feeling that this letter will get me started on writing a few more!

#seventy: i read another of my books which i purchased and never read (i think i have a total of 194 or something like that books to go) i read jodi picoult’s new book which SHE AUTOGRAPHED WHEN I MET HER!

#seventy four: so the goal is to attend 20 more red sox games (before the end of the 1001 days…trust me i would like to attend many more than 20 in my life) i’ve already done two this year (yes, i know i owe you pictures from the second game i went to) i’m going to go down to baltimore at the end of july to travel and visit My Wife and Cornmuffin and i am definitely going to watch the sox play baltimore when i am there. holla! so that will be my third game of the year. i’ve got tickets for three more games at the end of the season too!

#eighty three: i know i finished this one already, but i added some vitamins to my daily routine. i worked on this goal by taking vitamin D which i am still taking. now i am taking vitamins C and E as well.

#eighty eight: still working hard on this one. the cruise definitely set me back much more than i thought, but i am going to think positive. i was doing an excellent job at this and i will continue to do an excellent job. there is no way i am going to let a negative attitude weigh me down in debt.

#ninety: still downloading all budget stuff into my spreadsheet.

so here goes

# six: after doing a massive cleaning in my apartment, i filled two more huge construction sized bags of clothing, etc. to donate. i gave them to a friend whose agency is going to have a huge yard sale for charity. four down and six more to go!
#eighteen: eat at twenty new to me restuarants. wow, i am really doing fantastic on this goal. i am now 12 out of my goal of 20 restaurants. i will consider this goal completed at 20, but i’d like to see how many i can actually get to by the end of my 1001 days. can i double it? triple it?
here is where i have eaten:
11th street dinner in south beach, miami. this place is absolute HEAVEN! if you go to miami then i recommend this place as a must see! everything tasted perfect and they had such a wide variety of food- and healthy food too. i actually went there twice in my 1.5 days of being there. got a turkey burger, fries and fruit on my first day and french toast, eggs and fruit on the second meal. yummy in my tummy.

well i’ve got some work to do

ola amigos
ready for an update?
#3: http://www.freerice.com/ today i went on and used my knowledge to done 500 more grains of rice. which means so far i have donated 500 of my proposed 100,000 grains of rice. i’ve got a while to go.
#6: my mother so very nicely dropped off my 2 bags of donated goods to the salvation army. (thanks mom!) i’ve still got like 2 more bags to organize and i plan on dropping them off this coming week.
#10: i actually have been organizing my bookshelves. i still have more books to get in there, BUT i actually broke one of my shelves because i have too many books and it was too heavy! ugh. go figure! so hopefully i can finish it this evening, and maybe i will be able to add some pictures tonight too. after i finish then i am going to have to catalogue all my books. yikes. i don’t promise to get that all done this week though.
#18: i did go to another “new to me” restaurant with some of my classmates after class last week. we went to ixtapa which is a mexican restaurant near school. they have excellent sangria there! yummmm.
#21: i’ve done some more research on training for fenway, and found an affordable place to get fenway her training. i just need a little more info and then i am definitely registering her. it will start when i get back from my cruise. i think it starts the end of june.
#28: support local artists: i got my haircut on friday- nothing too exciting because i’ve got a few weddings to be in soon- i don’t think i have included her in this category yet. i’m also hoping to go to a zox concert next weekend. i haven’t seen them in a while. so i’m pretty excited.
i’ve been to a bunch of independent businesses so far. i mentioned above ixtapa, my
hairdressers, my nail salon. i didn’t mention this before (i think) but i consider my business for april would be the book sale i went to at a local library. i actually attended on may 2. but i was originally planning on going april 29, but they opened a day later due to some organizing problems. and i couldn’t make it until the 2nd. so that counted for april. i’d say my major business this month would be the mexican restaurant, ixtapa.
#34: i’ve got a few pictures to put start off my urban alphabet project. this is something i really haven’t kicked off. so i need to work a little more on capturing the alphabet in what i see.

#35: i’ve got a few more pictures for the 100 snapshots project.

#91

(i know i already did desk, but this is just another one.)

#39: i’ve got my second cork for my frame project. it was nothing special. i’ve had a bottle of cabernet savignon i’ve been wanting to try for a little while so i opened it up myself the other night and had a glass while i watched a movie. and guess what. the wine was notttttt good. ha.
#43: i’ve got a new picture for my biweekly pictures.
#47: i’ve decided to start my time capsule project as soon as i get home from the cruise. i want this to be my main goal priority (well along with my GIST project and weekly journal entries!) my 25th birthday is september 5 and i would actually like to “seal” the capsule before my birthday. i will be in VA for my bday, because two of my closest friends are getting married the day after. so instead of prolonging this, i’d like to have it done before i leave. i’m thinking of heading down there on the third possibly. so i’d like to be finished by september 1st, or the 3rd at latest. anyway. i’ll get back from the cruise on the 6th of june, so it gives me less than 3 months to get myself a quarter of a century time capsule. hollur.
#49: my cruise is in 12 days. incredible! i cannot wait to go!
#63: the journal writing is going well. i’ve completed week 20 this weekend. i’m absolutely bringing my journal with me on vacation and i am going to try to write once a day.
#64: since i have almost finished organizing my bookshelves then the next goal i can start on is writing a book review for every book i’ve read (or at least all the books i own). i do not plan on doing all of that at once. one book at a time. i just think i will be able to get a good bunch done this summer.
#66: i just did grace number 67 this morning about my singing life.
#67: i realized i did “join” a writing group. we are called the artichoke writers. its an inside story. it consists of most of my grad class and we’ve already planned the first ever artichoke festival this summer. i’d still like to actually start a reading group and have everyone read a book a month and possibly get together and discuss the book? i watched a movie i really liked last month about a reading group and i think its a great way to read/communicate. but in a sense whether i start a reading group or not…this is another complete item!!!
#69: i’m going to start working on my 100 personal letters to friends while i am on my cruise tanning by the pool!
#70: another goal for vacation is reading a few of the books i own but haven’t read before.
#74: i went to my second red sox game of the year on 5/8. my brother and i actually took my mom because it was her bday that day! and we took my other brother whose bday was in april. it was nice. the ride home was torture cause the boys were cranky and we were STUCK in traffic FOREVER! we won though. my mom was so excited because she has always left before the game ended, and we stayed the whole game. so it was really nice to see her so happy.
#88: obviously i am still kicking ass at paying off my credit cards. although i’m a huge asshole and i’ve bought way too much shit for this cruise that i don’t really need. oh, well. at least i will look hot. and i can’t be too mad at myself. i’ve done a good job getting things at great prices.
#90: yes, i am keeping my budget up to date. it keeps me on track.
#91: and yes, still paying off my car. i do it once a month so i doubt i’m going to keep mentioning it in my updates, lol!

#93: i know i am going to get teased about this one, but… i’m going to look into writing out a “living will” before i go on my cruise. just in case. ha that sounds so morbid, but you never know. its not like i have anything i need to give away…just the security of knowing my medical wishes, etc will be respected. you never know. its never too early to get these things in order!

there are also some things i want to get started working on while on vacation. i know i mentioned most before, but here is a quick round up. #18– eat at restaurants i have never been to before. #26- hopefully i can go to the gordon beirsh brewery in miami. #32– i’d like to photograph a day in my life while on the cruise and then do it again when i get back. i think it would be fun to compare “vacation erin” with “normal erin”! #34– i would love to work on the urban alphabet project while out of america. i think it would be so cool to get some letters in places i may never go to again. #35– i’ll hopefully also be able to take some of my 100 pics while on vacation for the same reason. #43– i’ll get a picture on vacation for my biweekly pictures. #69 i know i mentioned this but i’d like to send some personal letters to friends. and #70 also read some of the books i own. damn this all seems like a lot to do. but i think i’ll be okay.
phew. that was a lot of typing. i cannot wait to update after the cruise. hopefully i will have some pretty darn fantastic pictures!
